How to Interpret and Utilize the Evidence Scores in Open Targets?

Hello Open Targets Community,

My name is Emmanuel Katto. I’m exploring the Open Targets platform for my ongoing research, and I’ve come across the concept of evidence scores associated with target-disease relationships. I have a few questions regarding this:

* Could someone explain how the evidence scores are calculated and what the different thresholds signify?
  • How can I effectively use these scores to prioritize targets in my studies?

  • Are there specific strategies or case studies you can share that illustrate the successful application of evidence scores in real-world research?

Thank you for your insights! I’m eager to learn more about making the most of Open Targets data.

Best,
Emmanuel Katto

Hi @emmanuelkatto, and welcome to the Open Targets Community!

Could someone explain how the evidence scores are calculated and what the different thresholds signify?

You can find an explanation of each data source and how we’ve scored it in the Platform documentation. There is also an explanation of how we derive the overall association score. If you have specific questions about a data source, let us know.

How can I effectively use these scores to prioritize targets in my studies?

We don’t have guidelines for prioritisation decisions, since different drug discovery programmes may have different priorities. However, you can browse our Target Prioritisation view which has been designed with a traffic light system to facilitate target recommendations.

Are there specific strategies or case studies you can share that illustrate the successful application of evidence scores in real-world research?

This is a question for the rest of the Community, and we’d love to know the answer!
